Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026. The short version: the directory is built from government records that are public by law; from visitors we collect very little, we use no advertising trackers, and we never sell personal information.
1. Two kinds of information
It helps to separate the two kinds of information on this site. The directory content (lobbyists, firms, clients, filings, fees, issues, disclosed positions) comes from public records: filings required by the federal Lobbying Disclosure Act and published at lda.gov. We did not collect it from the people it describes; Congress requires them to disclose it to the public. This policy is mostly about the second kind: information about you, the visitor, when you browse, create an account, or use site features.
Note that job titles and covered positions from filings may be reformatted, including by hand, purely for legibility; the wording as filed stays available in the linked official filings. If a profile describes you and something is inaccurate (a reformatted title included), use Request an edit or Report a data issue; to control your profile’s presentation, claim it free. Our content policy for public-record information is described in the Terms of Service.
2. What we collect from visitors
Browsing. Standard server logs: IP address, pages requested, browser type, and timestamps, used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention. Our infrastructure providers process these to serve the site. We also use IP addresses to enforce daily limits on AI search.
Cookies. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and a preference cookie for your theme. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party ad trackers.
Accounts. If you create an account: your email address and sign-in activity.
Profile claims. If you claim a profile: your work email address and any note you include, used to verify the claim; and material you choose to publish (photo, biography, career history, contact preferences).
Inquiries. If you send an inquiry to a professional or firm through the site, we collect what you write and deliver it to that professional or firm, that delivery is the feature’s purpose.
Reports and questions. Data-issue reports (and an email address if you leave one), and questions typed into AI search. Search questions are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the answer, so please don’t include sensitive personal information in a search question.
Gov Relations in AI assistants. When you use Gov Relations inside ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant (our MCP connector), the assistant sends us only the request it makes on your behalf, such as a name, an issue or a quarter. We do not receive your conversation, your name or your account with that assistant. We record which tool was used, to count usage, and the requesting network address for up to one day, to enforce rate limits. No sign-in is needed and nothing is written to your account.
3. How we use it
To operate and improve the Service; to verify profile claims; to deliver inquiries you ask us to deliver; to respond to reports; to enforce limits and prevent abuse; to send service messages about your account (such as verification codes); and to comply with law. We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal information. If we ever introduce optional marketing email, it will be opt-in with a working unsubscribe.
4. When we share
With service providers that run our infrastructure (hosting, database, email delivery, AI processing), bound to use it only to provide their service to us; with a professional or firm when you send them an inquiry through the site; if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person or of the Service; and in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of the Service, in which case this policy continues to apply until changed. That’s the list.
5. Retention and security
Server logs are kept briefly for security and debugging. Account, claim, and inquiry records are kept while relevant to operating the Service. We use reasonable technical safeguards (encrypted connections, restricted access), though no online service can guarantee perfect security. The public filing record is retained indefinitely. That is the Service.
6. Your choices
You can browse without an account. You can ask us to delete your account and the personal information associated with it (this does not affect public filing records) via the contact form. You can correct anything on a claimed profile yourself at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you as a visitor; write to us and we will honor valid requests. Note that information drawn from public government filings is generally exempt from such rights under privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act’s publicly-available-information exemption.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes and contact
We will post any changes here with a new effective date; material changes will be noted prominently. Questions or requests: contact us through the site.
