Communications with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Members of Congress, and Congressional Committees to ensure that any regulations promulgated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under Title V of the Marine Mammal Protection Act to implement a polar bear subsistence harvest quota are based on, and issued after taking into consideration, sound science as well as the historical and cultural reliance of the Alaska Native community on the polar bear harvest.
- Federal legislation to authorize an exchange of Sealaska Corporation subsurface estate on Admiralty Island for U.S. Forest Service land elsewhere. - Federal legislation, including S. 1889 and H.R. 4748, to permit the Native residents of each of the Native Villages of Haines, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Tenakee, and Wrangell, Alaska, to organize as Urban Corporations and to receive certain settlement land under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. - Legislation to clarify that certain federal laws and regulations are inclusive of Alaska Native corporations for purposes of certain Federal programs and services that serve Native Americans. - Amendments to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, regulations implementing U.S. migratory bird treaties, and potential clarifying amendments to the underlying treaties, including S. 5258. - Amendments to the American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Culture and Art Development Act to support Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian arts and culture programs, including H.R. 8973.
