NFDA works with relevant federal departments/agencies and Congress to ensure that the role of funeral service in any mass fatality disaster is clearly defined and adequately reflected in their policies.

NFDA works with relevant federal departments/agencies and Congress to support and/or advocate for legislation, rules and regulations that address environmental health and safety issues related to funeral directors and the operation of funeral homes and crematories. Specifically, EPA and OSHA issues affecting funeral service, including issues related to formaldehyde exposure and use in embalming and the EPA TSCA Risk Evaluation. Including support of No IRIS Act of 2025 (S. 623/H.R. 1415):

NFDA works with relevant federal departments/agencies and Congress to support and/or advocate for legislation, rules and regulations that ensure the consensual donation and respectful disposition of human bodies and non-transplantable human body parts donated for education, research, and the advancement of medical, dental and mortuary science for research purposes. Including support The Consensual Donation and Research Integrity Act (S. 1270/H.R. 2589), which aims to bring federal oversight to the currently unregulated industry of whole-body donation.

NFDA works with relevant federal departments/agencies and Congress to support legislation, rules and regulations that improve funeral and burial benefits for Veterans and their families. Including supporting Ensuring Veterans Final Resting Place Act of 2025 (S. 1116/H.R. 647); The Dennis and Lois Krisfalusy Act (H.R. 1344); Prioritizing Veterans Survivors Act (H.R. 1228)

Small Business: Health Care, Taxes and Related Issues NFDA works with relevant federal departments/agencies and Congress to support and/or advocate for legislation, rules and regulations that recognize the unique needs of small and family-owned businesses. Specifically, issues related to small business and tax related issues including Death Tax Repeal Act and including final expenses as a qualified expense in health savings accounts. Including support of Funeral Coverage Act (H.R. 2436); and Death Tax Repeal Act of 2025 (S. 587/H.R. 1301)

CSP - Consumer Issues/Safety/Products: NFDA works with relevant federal departments/agencies and Congress to support and/or advocate for legislation, rules and regulations that ensure the consensual donation and respectful disposition of human bodies and non-transplantable human body parts donated for education, research, and the advancement of medical, dental and mortuary science for research purposes. The Consensual Donation & Research Integrity (CDRI) Act. Legislation includes: S. 4929; HR 4062
