During this quarter we have not actively lobbied any issues, meetings with USTR and DoC so far were only introductory due to personnel change at VDMA America.

Areas of closer collaboration on bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. were explored. I emphasized the importance of the tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act to spur manufacturing in the U.S. In this context, I highlighted the importance of VDMA member companies in supplying manufacturing facilities and production sites with machinery and equipment, as well as for infrastructure projects.

I always address the importance of extending the MTB, which would save many manufacturers and importers in the U.S. money. However, at the moment the MTB is not included in any current bill.

VDMA America Inc. has spoken with USTR about conformity assessment, which would make it easier for American and European exporters of machinery to have products certified in their own market for approval in the other market. Topics such as a steel & aluminum agreement were also discussed. During this quarter I have done active Congressional outreach to connect with staff of members on the Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee, as well as staff of Members on the Senate Finance Committee. Topics addressed were the consequences of a universal baseline tariff and tariffs on Europe, including exploring options to strengthen congressional oversight. I always highlighted the contribution of the members of our trade association in the U.S. such as supplying critical industries and creating jobs, and that its continuation requires stable US-EU relations.
