Advocacy on Medicare Food as Medicine, improvements to Medicare services related to nutrition clinical care and related physician and hospital reimbursement. Support medically tailored meals for Medicare beneficiaries, including provisions in H.R. 6780, the Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Demonstration Pilot Act, and S. 2133, the Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Demonstration Act. Monitor H.R. 8816, the American Medical Innovation and Investment Act, as amended by the Ways and Means Committee to add Sec. 7, to add a medically-tailored home-delivered meals demonstration program in Medicare.
Support improvement in nutrition, food as medicine, and chronic disease issues especially in the elderly, including advocacy on: a unified national strategy related to hunger and nutrition; a Food as Medicine pilot program; funding and guidance on nutrition education and training for physicians and health care providers and research on the role of nutrition in diet-related disease, including related provisions in: H.R. 9631, to provide for the establishment or expansion of Food as Medicine programs; and S. 2840, the Bipartisan Primary Care and Health Workforce Act to: (1) require HHS, in consultation with USDA, to create a strategic plan to improve health outcomes related to chronic conditions; and (2) require the HHS strategic plan to recommend ways to enable federally funded community health centers to provide produce prescriptions, medically tailored groceries, and medically tailored meals, and issue recommendations for reimbursement for such services in other federal programs.
